Creamy Inn was born out of Chicken Inn operations in October
1991, the first outlet being at Speke Avenue Complex. At this
stage the concept of food Halls or complexes was still in
its infancy in Zimbabwe. Trends in the European and overseas
markets reflected that consumers preferred to find
all their needs under one roof. The addition of Creamy Inn
to the Speke Avenue Complex together with Bakers Inn and Entertainment
Inns was a step in this direction.
The Zimbabwe ice cream market was by no means 'virgin' territory
at this stage. The few ice cream parlours that existed served
a very limited sector of the population by virtue of location
and pricing. These were namely the Dairy Den chain as well
as Happy Days to mention but a few. for the majority of Zimbabwe's
population, ice-cream was viewed as on unnecessary luxury
only meant for kids when the ice cream man in the street rang
his bell, or on the other hand it could have been due to the
lock of awareness. The rapid market penetration employed in
the introduction of Creamy Inn brought ice cream products
to the people, changing perceptions and lifestyles in the
process.
